We plan at least one or two day trips every month for the young girls in our home. These trips allow the young girls to get out of the house, see and explore new things, truly experience their culture without fear of what will happen to them, and of course to have fun. These day trips are also a lot of fun and a breath of fresh air for our wonderful, hard working staff of Honduran women. In the past, we’ve taken the girls to places like parks or little Honduran towns where the girls can eat out, get ice cream, and go shopping with their house moms, also known as their “Tias”. Lots of photos and sing-alongs are always included in this day of fun. Recently, we planned a day trip to the coast for our girls. It was a little further of a drive than our normal outings, but we soon found out that it was well worth it. For most of us, the coast brings back some of the best childhood memories we can remember. But for these young girls in our home that have been brought out of a life of slavery and abuse, there are no memories that don’t consist of pain, loneliness, rejection, and fear. Which explains why as we drove up to the coast and the young girls ran to the beach, they began looking out as far as they could see with tears running down their little cheeks. These tears were not tears of sorrow, they were tears of joy and tears of thanksgiving. These precious girls had never seen the ocean before and never thought that they would get the chance to. The glorious day was spent with lots of laughter, tears of joy, and soaking in the vast ocean. Memories were formed, childhoods were further restored, and the magnificent beauty of God as the creator was revealed to these girls for the first time.

There are a few times in life when you meet someone that can impact you in a way that humbles and empowers everything within you at the same time, and one of those people for me is Suzy McCall of Honduras. She’s a woman who radically loves the unwanted, the fatherless, the motherless, and the outcast. She’s a woman who brings prostitutes into her own home with her own adopted Honduran children. She’s a woman who is so filled with the love of Jesus that it pours out of her everywhere she goes and has resulted in an ever growing ministry to the people of Honduras. She’s also a woman who took a chance on a 22 year old who came to her with a dream. A dream to open a safe home for trafficked young girls.

That 22 year old was me, and come to find out, it was one of her dreams as well. She took me under her wing and as my experience and understanding of the love of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit grew to a life changing level, God began to move and freedom began to take place as we opened the doors of a safe home in October of 2010. In partnership with The LAMB Institute, founded by Suzy, our home of safety, healing, freedom, and love got off the ground in approximately 2 years of time, which is rather quick considering the red tape in Honduras and the great challenges that anyone would face in any part of the world when doing this type of restorative work. In times of uncertainty and resistance, Suzy always reminded me of who we trust to establish this ministry, Jesus. Now, because of the obedience of one woman who moved to Honduras 20 plus years ago, young girls who were once held as slaves are experiencing new life, and there will be many more to come as we all continue to join together and give hope to one girl at a time.

The College of Charleston Magazine recently traveled to Honduras and wrote a beautiful and real to life article on Suzy that gives you a glimpse into her everyday life, her ministry, and the woman that she is. I would love for you to take a few minutes to read it HERE. Thank you for believing in freedom with us.

“My favorite food is spaghetti. I love making it with my new family.”

- a young girl in our home who was once without freedom

Family and a meal around the table. A staple in most cultures. Even in a poverty stricken country such as Honduras, there is still the grand moment where there is nothing better than being surrounded by family around the dinner table. For this one spaghetti loving young girl in our home who at one point was bought, sold, and held captive against her will, a dinner table with people around her that love her is never taken for granted, it’s life changing. No longer is scant food getting thrown at her on the ground as if that’s all she was worth. She now experiences what every young girl should experience growing up, her favorite meal lovingly prepared and served to her on a plate, as she looks around and sees everyone smiling and laughing and telling wonderful stories about the day. She also loves to make and prepare the food along with our staff and the other young girls in our home, her new family. A simple plate of spaghetti takes on such meaning for this precious one that it’s important to her that everyone at the table is served a healthy portion, so that everyone can experience the joy that she is experiencing, and that this grand “nothing better” moment will last into the evening. She Dances exists to provide holistic restoration for young girls who have been trafficked and sexually exploited in Honduras. We invite you to join the dinner table with the young girls in our home in Honduras every night through giving a financial contribution and becoming a partner in freedom with us. Every gift is completely tax-deductible and vital in this restorative work. Together we’ll change lives, one girl at a time. DONATE NOW.

Can a nation be saved in one day?

The One Nation, One Day campaign believes so and we are proudly believing with them and supporting the efforts of this nation shaking initiative taking place in Honduras on Saturday July 20th, 2013.

Our work is a daily work in Honduras. Doing the restorative work that we do and seeing the daily need and hopelessness leaves us always looking to the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That’s when true healing and new life happens for the young girls that we encounter and bring into our home. So when we found out what the vision of One Nation, One Day is for the nation of Honduras on July 20th, we had to tell you about it, it’s that powerful!

We believe that God’s heart is to see young girls who have been trafficked and sexually exploited in Honduras set free, and to see the nation of Honduras and every nation saved. We are part of a big, beautiful picture that is being painted. If we all believe, and all do our part in all parts of the world, hope will be found and nations will be saved. It isn’t often that a vision such as this comes along for a nation, so we encourage you to view the One Nation, One Day video below, it really will be a great way to spend a few minutes of your time. Freedom is here.

Every chance she gets, after meals, in between therapy sessions, as soon as her homework is done, she heads straight for the swing set. Every day it’s of utmost importance to her to spend as much time swinging as she can, because she knows what waits on her when she arrives at the large structure made of wood and chain, a childhood. What some see as another piece of a playground, this young girl sees as a piece of her childhood that got taken away. As she swings back and forth and high into the sky, she lets go of the painful memories, smiles at the sun, and encounters the powerful state of being free.

This story of a young girl on a swing set is the story of one of the young girls in our home. Her childhood was one of abuse, rejection, and being sold by the people she thought were supposed to love her, her family. But because of the power of God and your compassion that has moved you to stand for freedom for these precious young girls in Honduras, this young girl and more are experiencing a childhood restored and true freedom. So next time you find yourself at a park maybe to enjoy a nice day, meet friends, or take your children to play, take some time to swing on the swing set no matter how old you are. As you swing back and forth and high into the sky, think about our young girls in Honduras who are swinging, playing, hopeful and thriving. While you’re at it, smile at the sun, and encounter the powerful state of being free.

To be a part of the story of freedom for young girls in Honduras who have been trafficked and sexually exploited, we invite you to GIVE HERE, or send us an e-mail at connect[at]shedances[dot]org and ask how you can be a voice for the voiceless.

Freedom is here.

“I want to be a beautician one day and make women feel beautiful, the way I do now.” This was proudly spoken by a young Honduran girl named, Andrea. If you have followed our blog for a while now, then you’ve met Andrea before. She’s the soft spoken and loving 15 year old girl (now 16) who found hope, love, and freedom in our home in Honduras. When we first met Andrea, she was anything but hopeful, loved, and free. She was bruised, depressed, unstable, timid, and believed that she was very ugly. Meeting her in that kind of state was no surprise, knowing that she had been sold for sex and abused at such a young age. But thankfully, her story didn’t end there. Andrea’s story had only begun and is beautifully unfolding everyday. As she began to heal in our home and found true hope, she realized that her dreams could now come true. Because she received the greatest love of all from her Father God, she now wants to spend a lifetime giving it to others. She knows what it’s like to feel “very ugly”, and she knows now that it’s a lie, and that she is beautiful. She wants to make sure that others don’t believe the same lie, and know how beautiful they are.

So we’re so thrilled to say that beginning this year, Andrea’s dream of being a beautician and making women feel beautiful, is coming true! She has been officially enrolled in a two year beauty school that will give her the training, skills, and preparation she needs to become a licensed beautician in the country of Honduras and work at any salon. After she graduates from the school, she’ll even be eligible to receive a micro business start up grant for her business. Andrea said recently, “I’m thankful that my dreams can come true.”

As Andrea begins this new season in her life in 2013 we ask that you walk in this season with her and the other young girls in our home who are healing, believing, and dreaming.
