I want a husband one day who will love me and I can love him. I will enjoy baking cookies for him. He will treat me good, with lots of kindness.

- Gloria (a young Honduran girl in our home)

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our amazing supporters, partners, and blog readers. This quote from one of the young girls receiving healing and restoration in our home is one of hope and promise. This is the same girl who at one point, for understandable reasons, didn’t trust any man. After we had the privilege and honor of bringing her into our home and loving her the way she deserves to be loved, she now is able to dream of the day when she has a loving husband with a kind heart. Instead of being cursed at, spit on, and used as a sexual commodity every day for months at a time, Gloria now is encouraged, welcomed, empowered, and loved. At She Dances we all celebrate these words coming out of her mouth, healing has and is continuing to take place within her. This Valentine’s Day we invite you to celebrate this growth and healing with us and proclaim that today and every day is a day of love for Gloria and the other young girls in our home.

Thank you for your continued support of our restorative work. You have created a She Dances family that is changing lives and moving mountains for precious young girls in Honduras.

To give a donation of freedom and restoration click HERE. Every dollar is essential.

Our good friends at Paper Antler have begun their year long adventure across the country in order to raise $50,000 for She Dances. This amazing adventure and inspiring journey they are on is called “The Fifty Nifty“. The buzz that has been created around this endeavor has been life changing, not only for the young girls in our home, but for young girls all around the world who need a voice. Jonny & Michelle Hoffner at Paper Antler, the masterminds behind “The Fifty Nifty”, are being that voice and have now taken it a step further with Tuesday Pledge Day. Every Tuesday of 2012 you will have an opportunity to make a donation via the Paper Antler Blog that will go towards funding our safe home in Honduras. We invite you to join us for Tuesday Pledge Day by giving a donation here, and we also encourage you to stay current with what Paper Antler is up to on their Fifty Nifty travels in 2012 by following their blog here. Thanks to everyone who has made this a wonderful success and to all of you who are going to play such a vital role in our mission through Tuesday Pledge Day.

Little Sophia was eight years old when she was taken far away from where she grew up and given to strangers. Having already grown up in an abusive and disheartening home, Sophia was vulnerable and fragile. These strangers spoke sternly and cruelly to her and she quickly found that the only way to keep from being physically hurt by them was to comply with their demands. She was taken to a brothel with a group of girls where for the next three years she was held captive. At the young age of eight, nine, and ten years old, Sophia was sexually exploited on a daily basis. Her body was violated, her mind was darkened, her hope was absent.

At 11 years of age, Sophia entered into the She Dances home in Honduras where she was immediately met with warm smiles and safe hugs. Broken, bruised, and tired she found rest. She found food being served on a plate instead of the floor and she found true love. Our staff psychologist began counseling sessions through which her suicidal thoughts began turning into thoughts of play. She spends hours on her swing set and cherishes her colorful hair ribbons. When recently asked what her favorite thing about her new home is, she said “I am loved here”. She currently is learning how to read, an accomplishment that, when mentioned to her, always gets a big, shy smile. A recent and first trip to the dentist has not only provided health but has also promoted confidence in how she sees herself. She is full of life and hope and not a day goes by in which she doesn’t get out her art supplies and paint a masterpiece of trees and bright flowers.

Your support has helped make this story of hope possible. We invite you to continue being a part of the movement of freedom and continue joining us in our quest for restoration. Every donation changes a young girls life.

Freedom is here.

A new year brings excitement and anticipation as we all look forward to a fresh start. It’s the time of year when we set new goals, make resolutions, get into good habits, and take a long look in the mirror. It’s a new year that often spring boards us into breakthrough, revelation, and accomplishment.

For a group of young girls in Honduras who have been a part of our She Dances family now for over a year it is much more simple. They’ve experienced the entire past year without abuse, rejection, pain, and lack of love. It’s new, it’s healing, it’s hopeful. As they look to 2012 their resolutions consist of smiling more, laughing more, learning to read, and experiencing a child hood they never had. It’s the small things that create opportunities for big steps of healing and faith within the young girls in our home.

This butterfly was painted by Gloria, one of the young girls in our home. As she paints healing takes place, she creates, and she believes in herself. She knows that 2012 is going to be a year like no other, a year that continues to take her out of bondage and into new life. We shared this painting in our end of year newsletter, and thought that there was no better way to start off the new year than with a blog that featured Gloria’s butterfly.

This year you can make holistic restoration possible for young girls who have been trafficked and sexually exploited in Honduras by GIVING a donation to She Dances. Every dollar makes a difference. Click HERE to give.

We recently had the privilege of sharing the She Dances story and mission at Central High School in Park Hills, MO. While there we met many inspiring young high school students that were doing their part to abolish slavery. One that stood out was Jordyn Weiss, a senior at Central High, who has a passion to change the world. She put together this series of photos shot at her school with her fellow classmates in order to raise awareness and accompany our presentation. We’re continually amazed at the many students engaging the movement of freedom around the country. Freedom is here.

Andrea grew up in a physically abusive home where her entire childhood was one of rejection, fear, and abuse. At age 14, out of desperation, she ran away and found herself on the city streets of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. These are the same streets where recent studies have shown that out of 143 street children interviewed and examined, 100% had at least one sexually transmitted disease. Andrea was lured in by a man who promised care, provision, and protection. He then took her to a city hours away where she was locked up and didn’t see the light of day for two months. Day after day she was sexually abused by up to eight men a day while she was kept sedated with a forced drug addiction. Andrea was used as a commodity; she was traumatized and exploited, she was losing all hope. Then a moment came where her spirit found an ounce of hope still hanging by a thread as she escaped the terror she was living in and hitch hiked her way back to the city that was the closest place she could call home. Soon after, she was picked up by child services where she was thrown into an unforgiving system of abusive and apathetic homes. She was wounded, she was ashamed, she was confused. Then we found her. She entered our home a quiet, timid, and fearful young girl that saw herself as a victim. She was immediately fed, clothed, and told that she is loved more than she will ever know and that she is no longer a victim, but a child of promise. Now, at age 15, Andrea is thriving as our passionate staff counsels, teaches, and encourages her. Her smile is easily seen and sweet as she loves to study and to learn how to bake. A swing set and a baby doll give her a childhood that she never had. Andrea has a dream of one day being a beautician; a dream she practices and prepares for on our staff and other girls in the home. She is being restored, her hope is alive and singing, and her healing is taking place at this very moment.

We invite you to partner with us in the restoration of Andrea and other precious young girls with her similar story by donating a financial gift or getting involved. Together, we can change lives, one girl at a time.

Freedom is here.
